Managing parameter display: parameters not showing

This post is about how WebTrends lets you deal with dynamic pages, and addresses this problem:

“In my Pages report, all I see is a few generic file names!”

The question refers to this situation: your site is based on templates and its filenames consist of a generic part (the actual file name, like “page.asp” or “product.asp”) and a specific part separated from the generic part by a question mark, (like “pageID=home” or “product=aerogels”).  And that the specific part isn’t there.  More specifically,

/www.mysite.com/en/product.asp?product=aerogels
/www.mysite.com/en/product.asp?product=rail gun kits

is showing up as

If that’s your situation, there’s an easy fix.  WebTrends is by default not displaying the query parameters, and you have to tell it to do so.  You do this in the Analysis tab called Page File Types.  In that tab, locate the type of file (in the above examples, it’s asp) and change the setting so it does NOT truncate parameters.

You might also want to look at the next topic, “In my Pages report, I’m seeing these huge long URLs with too many parameters!”
